The stator is a wire coil contained inside the engine box. A magnet attached to a shaft rotates within the stator, producing alternating current (AC). That current flows through the casing on heavy gauge wire and into the rectifier or regulator that transforms it to DC power with a steady output. The stator coil supplies electricity for the spark plug and other accessories on small engines. If without a stator, there would be no spark, and the boat would not work. A failing stator might create a weak spark, causing the engine to miss or perform poorly. As the engine heats up, the symptoms frequently intensify. Key Features:
