In vehicles with a fuel injection system, an idle air control valve, also known as an idle air sensor control motor, is an electronically operated valve that regulates the amount of air that bypasses the throttle plate. This causes the engine’s idling speed to alter as needed. The idle air valve’s capacity to allow air to pass through and bypass the throttle plate is determined by the computer in the vehicle that controls this function using data from the air sensor.
